How did you get your start in politics? “My dad never ran for public office, but he believed deeply that we should help those who are willing to step up. At 7 years old I was handing out fliers at the polls.”

What’s an interesting book/article you’re reading now or finished? And why? “Kaiser Family Foundation studies on the effects of Medicaid expansion in the 37 states that have done it. Past time for North Carolina to follow suit. I am also reading current Chapel Hill resident and good guy John Grisham’s novel ‘The Reckoning.’

What is a trend going on in the U.S. or abroad that doesn’t get enough attention? “Colorful socks with men’s business suits. My drawer has gone from all black to looking more like a bag of skittles.”

How is the Trump presidency going? “Seriously?”

What’s a fun fact that people in Washington might not know about you? “I’m addicted to Fitbit, and for 18 months I walked at least 10,000 steps every single day until a little back surgery forced me to break the streak. I’m starting up again soon.”
