Allen Park — Ameer Abdullah is staying in the NFC North. The former Detroit Lions running back, who was waived on Tuesday, was claimed by the Minnesota Vikings.
A second-round pick out of Nebraska in 2015, Abdullah appeared in 35 games for the Lions, rushing for 1,251 yards on 327 carries and catching 57 passes for another 420 yards.
He joins a Vikings backfield rotation headed by Dalvin Cook and Latavius Murray. Through eight games, Minnesota ranks 29th in the NFL in rushing (91.7 yards per game).
If Abdullah sticks in Minnesota, hell get a chance to face his former team in Week 16, when the Vikings come to Ford Field on Dec. 23.
Practice squad swap
The Lions re-signed wide receiver Andy Jones to the practice squad, releasing tight end Hakeem Valles to make room.
Jones spent much of the offseason injured and had been activated off the physically unable to perform list prior to last Sundays matchup with the Vikings. He primarily played special teams, working 18 snaps with the units in the loss.
